Electric vehicles are playing a vital role as the world moves towards a low-carbon green economy. Batteries are vital to this transition, and many challenges remain in the quest to boost battery capacities and lifetimes while reducing the cost and environmental impacts of battery production. In the final Physics World Live event of 2024, we explore how researchers are developing next-generation battery technologies and some of the hurdles that they must overcome. Panellists will also look at how the research community can support the burgeoning battery industry.
