Training Manager

The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis and early-stage commercialisation. We bring together over 500 researchers across 25 universities and collaborate with more than 140 UK industry partners to drive advances in battery technology and support the UK’s transition to electrification.

Our Education and Training Team plays a central role in building a diverse and dynamic talent pipeline into the battery sector through a range of training, development, and outreach programmes.

The Role 

The Faraday Institution is seeking a highly organised, motivated, and proactive individual to lead the delivery and ongoing development of two flagship programmes:

• The Faraday Institution PhD and EngD Training Programme
• The Faraday Undergraduate Summer Experience (FUSE)

This role combines management, delivery, and continuous improvement of these established programmes, ensuring that activities are delivered to a consistently high standard and continue to provide an excellent experience for researchers, students, and other stakeholders. The postholder will take responsibility for operational delivery, budgeting, coordination and evaluation, working closely with the Head of Training and Talent Development, who will oversee strategic planning of the programmes.

This position will also contribute to the government-funded Battery Innovation Programme, supporting the development of advanced skills for the UK battery sector, helping to demonstrate impact, share success stories and strengthen engagement across the research and innovation community.

The postholder will build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and be responsible for identifying and working with others across the Engagement, Education and Events team, to promote success stories, demonstrating programme impact. Key Responsibilities

Programme Delivery

• Lead end-to-end delivery of the Faraday Institution PhD and EngD Training Programme, including residential training weeks and year-round activities.
• Manage and deliver the day-to-day management and delivery of the Faraday Undergraduate Summer Experience (FUSE) programme, supporting approximately 45 interns annually.
• Ensure programmes are delivered on time, within budget, and to a consistently high standard.
• Implement evaluation processes and use insights to continuously improve programme delivery, effectiveness and impact.

Event and Stakeholder Management

• Build and manage relationships with universities, researchers, training providers, hotels, venues, and industry partners.
• Act as the primary point of contact for programme participants and stakeholders.
• Oversee the planning and delivery of events, including residential training, workshops and webinars.
• Support researchers throughout their training journey and respond to programme queries and issues.
• Represent the Faraday Institution professionally at events and across the training community.

Programme Development and Impact

• Maintain accurate training records, participation data, and reporting documentation.
• Ensure programmes are accessible, inclusive and aligned with institutional priorities.
• Capture and communicate programme impact, including case studies and success stories.
• Contribute to reporting, stakeholder engagement and committee support.

The team operates within a dynamic and fast pace evolving environment, developing new programmes and initiatives. As such, the postholder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility, contributing to new areas of work and supporting emerging organisational priorities as required.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent experience in higher education, training, events, or researcher development.
• Proven experience managing and delivering programmes or events.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Confident communicator able to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and solve problems proactively.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities.

Desirable:

• Interest in or knowledge of the battery, energy or wider STEM sectors.
• Experience evaluating training programmes and using data to inform improvements.
• Experience communicating programme impact, including developing case studies or reports.
• Familiarity using HubSpot, SurveyMonkey, or similar.

Role details

• Location: Hybrid working, with at least 2-3 days per week at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Oxford, UK.
• Salary: £42,500- 45,000
