Sustainable Manufacture, Scale-up and Recycling
These projects target high impact areas to improve battery manufacturing cost, time and energy usage, by improving the fundamental understanding of key manufacturing processes including electrode manufacture. Research is embedding design-for-recycling principles into industry thinking and providing a UK EV battery recycling industry with a pipeline of scalable technologies.
Electrode Manufacturing
The University of Oxford is leading a consortium to revolutionise the way electrodes for lithium ion batteries are manufactured.
Formation and Aging
Led by the University of Birmingham, FAST aims to develop a science-based, scalable and more sustainable formation, ageing, and testing (FA&T) framework.
Recycling and Reuse
A project led by the University of Birmingham and including five other universities and 20 industry partners is determining how ultimately 100% of EV batteries can be reused or recycled.
