Faraday Institution Conference 2025 Wins Award
The Faraday Institution Conference 2025 has been awarded the Gold Award for Best New Conference/Event at the Conference and Events Awards 2026. Over three years, the conference has grown into the UK’s flagship event for the battery research and innovation community, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers and early-career scientists to accelerate progress in energy storage.
Bringing together the UK battery ecosystem
Hosted by the University of Warwick under the theme “Energising the UK Battery Ecosystem”, the 2025 conference delivered its largest and most successful event to date.
The Faraday Institution Conference was established to provide a dedicated forum where researchers, industry partners, policymakers and innovators could come together to address the most pressing challenges facing battery technology. It has grown rapidly into a major international event, strengthening academic-industry partnerships and supporting the UK’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
The varied, compelling 2025 programme delivered an exceptional mix of scientific excellence, industry insight and policy leadership. It featured 64 speakers across ten battery research themes, including keynote addresses from Nobel Prize-winning battery pioneer Professor Sir Stanley Whittingham, Professor Shirley Meng, and the Chief Scientific Advisers of two government departments – Julia Sutcliffe and Paul Monks.
Alongside the main programme, 204 early-career researchers presented their work through the conference poster session, providing opportunities to showcase research and build professional networks.

The conference was designed to maximise interaction, collaboration and community building. Networking opportunities were enhanced through long lunch breaks, an informal welcome networking event with street food vans, and a memorable conference dinner and awards ceremony held in Coventry Cathedral. The dinner featured an inspirational after-dinner address from Robert Llewellyn, founder of the Fully Charged Show and prominent electric vehicle advocate, who shared his entertaining and humorous insights on the central role batteries will play in the global energy transition.

A tailored sponsorship prospectus was developed offering companies meaningful opportunities to engage with UK researchers. The strong exhibitor participation reflected the conference’s growing reputation as a meeting point for the UK battery ecosystem. The exhibition space sold out, with 32 sponsors and exhibitors.
The conference sold out two weeks before the registration deadline, with organisers introducing an online attendance option to accommodate demand. During the event, a social media campaign on LinkedIn with exceptional engagement helped extend the conference’s reach well beyond the physical venue, building momentum for registration in 2026.
Feedback confirmed the event’s success in delivering on its objectives. Beyond the metrics, the atmosphere at the event was widely described as energetic, collaborative and inspiring.

Looking ahead
Building on the success of the 2025 event, registrations are open for the Faraday Institution Conference 2026, which will take place at the University of Nottingham from 8–10 September 2026.
The Faraday Institution Conference has evolved into a major international gathering for the battery research and innovation community. What makes the event distinctive is its ability to bring together research, industry and policy in a single collaborative forum, fostering dialogue between the three stakeholder groups, accelerating the translation of scientific discovery into commercial innovation.
